What to Expect

An evaluation with Summit is an investment in your child’s future. We are committed to providing services with integrity and excellence. You will receive individualized service, dedicated time and meaningful information about your child.

Initial Phone call to our office –You can schedule an in-person or virtual intake to share your concerns in more detail and begin the evaluation process. You will receive an invitation to a secure client portal. The portal will host several documents that need your attention and/or signature prior to the intake interview. It will also manage secure emails, appointments, and invoices/payments.

Intake – The intake interview generally takes one hour. Your psychologist will spend time going through your child’s background history and learning more about the challenges your child experiences and what you hope to gain from a thorough evaluation. The psychologist will customize an assessment plan for your child and provide recommendations for how to best move forward. If you are accessing us for an early childhood evaluation, your team will include a psychologist and speech/language pathologist. If you decide to move forward with an evaluation, you will schedule your testing sessions and the initial intake fee ($175) will be rolled into the total cost of the evaluation. If we are not able to provide the service you need, we will offer recommendations for other providers in our area.

Testing sessions – At the end of the intake interview and based on the customized assessment plan for your child, you and your psychologist will schedule 2 to 5 testing sessions over 2 to 4 weeks. The remaining first half of the payment is due before testing begins. If you have a card on file with us, it will be billed automatically. These sessions are generally 60 to 90 minutes depending on the age of your child and/or their ability to sustain their attention and focus. Summit prefers to break the testing down into manageable chunks of time to ensure the results are reliable and valid. Parents are welcome to stay in our waiting room during testing, or, if your child is old enough, leave a phone number and return at the designated time.

Data Collection – Summit evaluations are very comprehensive and gather meaningful information about your child from multiple sources.  Along with data collected in-office with your child, with your permission, your psychologist will gather input from home, school and other community agencies as needed (e.g., therapists) This comprehensive information is used to develop a body of information to inform strengths, needs and potential diagnoses.

Report Write-up – Once the body of information has been collected, your psychologist will take 10 days to 2 weeks to score, interpret and write up an integrated report. The report will include your child’s strengths and needs, and will outline a diagnosis, if appropriate. You will also receive an Individual Support Plan that will include recommendations, suggestions, and interventions to support your child in school and in life. As licensed and school psychologists our reports transfer smoothly into the educational setting.

Feedback Session – Please set aside 90 minutes for a feedback session. We encourage parents to find childcare for this session so that you can give all of your attention and focus to the report feedback.  It is not Summit policy to send a report in advance of the feedback session. During the feedback session your psychologist will review the results of the evaluation with you in detail. This is your opportunity to ask questions and learn how your child processes their world.  Summit psychologists have extensive hands on experience with special education and 504 guidelines and laws. We can help you navigate the educational setting to access appropriate supports for your child. The remaining half balance is due prior to the feedback session.

Follow-up – Upon request, Summit psychologists can attention school meetings (e.g., IEP meetings) to share the results of the evaluation. This service is not included in the cost of the evaluation. Summit psychologists are not educational advocates. If you require ongoing advocacy, we can give you contact information for educational advocates in our area. As the results of the evaluation are a moment in time in your child’s overall development, Summit can provide future reevaluations as needed to update diagnoses and identify current needs.

Payment

Summit accepts cash, checks, and all major credit cards. We do not bill health insurance companies and we are considered out-of-network providers. Upon your request we can provide an invoice (superbill) for you to submit to your health insurance company.  Reimbursement from your health insurance company using Summit’s invoice is not guaranteed. Payment is expected at the time of service. Payment plans can be discussed during your initial intake session.

Fees are set by the referral question, type and level of assessment needed. Fees listed are estimates and the actual fee will be set when you schedule your appointment.

Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluations: $3,800 – $4,800

Specific Learning Disability: $2,500 – $3,000

Individual sessions and consultation: $175 – $200 per hour

**Providers at Summit are not Medicaid providers. We are not allowed, by law, to bill for services for a child covered by Medicaid.
